Picked up a 3DS yesterday, $210, thank you Best Buy.
Took some 3D pics with it, was curious about format 'n' whatnot.
Thankfully, cool dudes at Nintendo decided to use MPO.
MPO is a pretty neat format, what it (essentially) does is store multiple JPEG images in a single file.
MPO files, just being fancy JPEGs, are easy to work with.
I was able to generate my own using Stereo Photo Maker, from my own 3D Photographs.
So, yes, you can convert 3D pictures for viewing on the 3DS, and vice-versa, taking 3DS photo, and converting them to other 3D Formats. (JPS, Anaglyph, whatever)
I'll make a couple nice little tutorials later today, so y'all can do it yourself.
Those of you who know what you're doing can probably do it without a tutorial.
Just know that they need to follow the naming scheme the 3DS uses, and they must be within the size constraints, 640x480.
