Wiikey red light and error message?

So I wired up my wiikey to my board using a breakout board. When I power the GC on, I get the red light on the Wiikey. I get the purple interrogation point in the menu, then an error message. Last time I did this I had the wiikey menu popping up immediately when I fired up the Gamecube. What could be the problem? I just checked the connections with my multimeter, but I could still check again. Oh and also, the image on the screen is sometimes black and white.

Usually this is from no SD in the wiikey fusion slot. Or your wiring is messed up and the signal isn't being sent correctly.

Try a different SD card and if that fails then rewire the wiikey to the GC with shorter wire if possible.
