Question about Mac os 10.8

hello people, i have a question about Mac 10.8, whenever i open a new window in any application, every other window gets hidden, and when i open one of those windows up, it hides every other one. it's really annoying, i have to go through this process to open more than one window at a time.

Does anyone know what this is and/or how to fix it?
