Power Supplies for use with no batteries

Hey all.

Was just wondering if anyone knew if a switching power supply like this:

with an output of 1.6A @ 6v dc would work to power a portable while playing, like an N64, without any internal batteries?

or even this one:

1.25A @ 12vdc being a higher voltage should lessen the amperage draw while playing, no?

Obviously for a n64p you would still need the 3.3v regulator hooked into the circuit, and account for the other current draws for the screen and audio amp.

And as for powering the auido amp, as most portables end up with a 7.4v battery for power, would 12v be too much for a 5v audio amp like this one:

I've been thinking about trying this out but would like some clarification/verification before proceeding with it so as not to fry anything... I assume it would work fine as long as it puts out enough amperage to power everything.

thank you!
