Official Wiikey Fusion to GC MOD troubleshooting thread!

So I finally re-wired my Wiikey and now the gamecube power light clicks on and then off with it connected; as soon as I disconnect the wiikey though, it boots up fine as if it has no disk drive.

Any ideas?

Can someone please tell me why when my Wiikey is loading the SD card with the restore.ISO image from Wiikey's website, it boots up with no errors, and works perfectly like how it is supposed to. But when i put in the same SD card after formatting it with WBFS and load the update 1.5.iso to it, my wiikey says the disk cannot be read and it glitches? I've tried 2 different SD cards. The only time it boots correctly is when i have the restore SD card loaded in it.

Any ideas? Please, i need help with this. Everything is obviously hooked up correctly if it loads properly with the restore SD card, right?

Thanks!

Sounds like your pin 29 to ground is not quite right. What kind of switch are you using? Also check the FFC's going to and from the cardreader. Maybe they are not quite in all the way?

Hey Ashen, thanks for the response man.

My pin 29 to ground is hooked up to a normally closed momentary tact switch. And as for the SD reader, everything is hooked up right because it read the SD card with the recovery file with no problem at all, booted right up like it was supposed to.

Yep. Switch 1 off, 2,3,4 on for North America.

Could both SD cards be incompatible?

I did notice, after i was done using the SD card for the recovery.iso, i reformatted it with WBFS manager 4.0 and added the 1.5 update to it. Tried it on the wiikey and just errors. So i put the SD card back in my computer's card reader and it looked like it wasn't reformatted at all.

Almost like WBFS manager wasn't working for some reason?

When you plug a wbfs formatted card into your computer windows will tell you its unusable ar something. Do you have snother computer to try it on?

I have a Mac that i can check it on. Thanks again for the advice Ashen. I'm about ready to give up on this wiikey if i can't get it to work after this.

I think i might try dumping the 1.5 update ISO onto the SD card similar to how I had to do the recovery ISO and see if that makes any difference at all.

Well, at least it looks like your trouble is with WBFS manager then. I'm pretty sure it uses .net framework so make sure that's all updated and such.

Ashen, I actually used that switch for the other one, the wii lid sensor. I'm gonna get that switch tomorrow. Until then.... Also that momentary switch, it is a normally closed switch.....

I still have this problem, and I can get a picture if it would help.

This means you have a short somewhere involving your wiikey wiring. Possibly the ribbon cable not being lined up.

Essentially, one of your ground wires is touching a wire that has voltage/data going through it.

Okay, so I've made sure every wire is seperated and trimmed a bit of some of the wires, and now the light stays on ~4x as long, but still no video, and it still doesn't stay on.

2 questions: do all the ground need to be bridged on the breakout board? and how does my soldering look?
