Geb Builds a bed.

I've been kinda busy lately, what can I say.

The other day, I moved into a new apartment... and realized I didn't have a bed... So I made one.

The frame is made from 2*4's held to 4*4's with 3 inch lag screws.
The "Mattress" Is rope woven between the frame really tight with a rug on top of it to smooth out the bumps.
On top of that I have copious amounts of padding.

All in all, I think a full sized bed, with a mattress and a frame for $70 or so was a Dang good deal.

Is it comfortable?
It looks cool even if it's not that comfortable.

It's not *that* comfortable, I mean, it's a glorified cot... but it's Dang better than sleeping on the floor, and has room for me and my girlfriend on it.

It's also sturdy as *Can'tSayThisOnTV*. It doesn't rock, wobble, squeak, or bump AT ALL. I *Can'tSayThisOnTV*ing love lag screws.

been there, done that... you should have figured this out by now.

I'm talking super rigorous... I'm not going to go into it here.

Looks pretty good to me. It looks somewhat like a taut hammock.

I think it looks comfy as well. Is it nice on the back?

does it fit any standard mattress sizes? You could check Craig's List for some cheap mattress/box springs

it's a full, but I'm not getting a secondhand mattress because I know what people do in bed...

once again, it's a full sized cot, so it doesn't *need* a mattress, and the rope serves the same purpose as a box springs, so it would be stupid to put a box springs on it.

If you've ever slept on a cot, imagine that minus the cramped feeling.

Do you sleep on top of everything shown in the picture, or is that used as bedding, too? If you want some more padding, I would suggest an egg crate foam mattress pad. They're kinda pricey compared to your bed cost, but you'll be able to use it for years to come (on top of a mattress when you get one, camping, ghetto bed for guests).

At least it passed the most important test. ;)

I've got some foam bedding on to of it. everything shown there is used as a mattress, along with a stiff rug that makes the rope not suck.

It'd probs be a bit more comfortable if the ropes weren't so tight. It could be some kind of quasi-hammock.

The rug and padding does just fine. I mean, It's litterally a big cot. Not that bad at all. The rug makes the ropes not hurt and the padding just makes it slightly less firm. No big deal.

Saggy ropes would make it a death funnel, and I would never be able to get out of it. They wouldn't make it softer, and it would make it so I have more pressure points from having fewer ropes supporting me. Not a comfy idea at all.

This type of bed works best with a futon mattress or a sheet of foam like vskid3 suggested.

Couldn't you go get a cheap air mattress from Walmart or something to throw on top of it?
I think I'd prefer sleeping on the rope than an air mattress.

Now that I think of it, them being tight is the best idea. One of the egg crate pads is definitely the way to go, though.
