GameCube strange audio

Hey guys, I have a question about my gamecube's audio.
I'm running the audio off of the composite output, and using a PAM8403 Double Track Power Amplifier to get stereo sound. However, regardless of what volume I set the sound to, and whether or not I put resistors on the + audio lines for the speakers, I get very distorted and rattly bass sounds. I have tried 3 other amps that worked perfectly on their own, with other inputs, and I have used 4 different sets of speakers. I am beginning to believe that the poor audio quality is caused by the GameCube itself. Does anyone know what I can do to fix this? Thanks.

I don't know if you ever got your question answered, but one cause of this is that the voltage going to the audio pre-amp is too low. It should be 12v, ideally. It can go lower, but 5v is probably too low.

What voltage are your batteries? You can wire it straight to your batteries' output as long as it's less than 16v.
