200$ WTF ???
are you sure you know what parts you are looking at or what parts you even need?
|I've decided that rather than spending roughly $200 on wiikey/wasp fusion and a megadrive
No offense meant to you, the megadrive is AWESOME, it's just expensive
No offense taken at all...
I am curious how you end up with a 200$...
Can you post a list of items and quantity which equals the 200$ you have indicated...a more realistic price should be about 50$ - 60$ to get what you need to go driveless

If you want to use that GB player hardware you won't need a DVD drive because wasp will boot your iso backup...

$50

$25
or

$100

~$30

So yeah, I guess it was a lot less than I thought.

I'm just going to bite the bullet and ignore my game collection. I've decided to get a wiikey or wasp fusion. can anybody tell me which one is better

For a portable I would advise against MEGAdrive V4...
It will add unnecessary bulk to your project and you will have a DVD drive that will have only about 1% total usage...

V3 will be fine if you want very very minimal soldering and if you plan to keep the mainboard DVD port connector...
Else V5 will be your best option if you want to remove the mainboard DVD drive port connector. V5 seems to be easier to solder for most people while V6 offers some challenges in soldering without the right soldering equipment...
But if you want stupid simple quick connectivity, V3

Also Wiikey Fusion and WASP Fusion are the exact same thing...they only look different...

Okay, so is MEGAdrive required to use wiikey/wasp on the gamecube, or can I just solder the wiikey right on? Also, I live in the states, so getting a wasp will be expensive and/or impossible as the wasp has no distributors in north america. Can anybody point me in the direction of one if I'm wrong?

Edit: How did this topic become popular?

Soldering the Wiikey/Wasp is an option. It's just generally difficult. MEGAdrive lets you connect your Wiikey or Wasp with far less struggle.

Progress update (for teh lazies who don't want to read my posts)

Does it work on it's own?
[of course it doesn't] [edit: I meant that It will need the controller port and the cpu]
controllers (a used game shop near me sells them.)

I need:
a battery
a place to get plastic for a vaccum molded case
anything else?

what do you mean possible?
if its listed then its available and tested proven to be fully functional....good luck getting that kind of guarantee anywhere else at the same rock bottom price....
I meant that I didn't know if the wasp drive replacement and cpu worked without anything else needed.
Edit: it looks untrimmed. Is it? if it is, then I can use it for the gameboy player attachment

That board is untrimmed.

The Wasp doesn't "require" anything to be usable except a controller, the pads to solder the Wasp to, and, well, the processors.

Pads?
I'm guessing that all of you are facepalming at my lack of modding experience, and at my stupidity of making this my first portable.

Edit: my question still stands, does anybody know where to find a good battery for my gamecube? otherwise I'll just go without until someone does

Sorry, by pads I meant these areas:

For good batteries you can always look here: http://www.batteryspace.com
But I don't know just what you're looking for.

I've ordered all of the gamecube bits, and I will test my screen as soon as they arrive. I will start my actual portable's assembly once all the parts are here, or after the christmas season is over, whichever comes first

Hello everyone. I just staryed here and i was hoping that someone could be my "mentor" if you will and show and or tell me how to make a gamecube portable.

There should be more than enough information in the megastickies and various other posts of questions from other people to be able to do a little research of your own to make a portable. I think you're gonna have trouble finding someone to hold your hand without putting forth a lot of effort on your own end in making one. imo.
