Do I have to use a cartridge?

I am in the process of gathering parts to make my own portable N64. However, the cartridge itself is bigger than I like. Is there a chip out there, similar to the wiikey fusion, that would let my get rid of cartridges all together? Thanks.

Uhh, not exactly. You can use an n64 flash cart, the board is fairly small on most and you can load games off of an SD card. iirc Marshallh was making a "portable version" of the 64Drive. But I may be way mistaken on that. Basically you solder it into the board. You could do the same to a normal flash cart as well, I suppose.

I'd be iffy even buying the 100 dollar one, to be honest. Either get the 64Drive or the Ever Drive 64 Rev. 2. The others aren't really work getting (ie the EverDrive 64 rev 1)
