Ok so for mah portable, I need the built in(internal) controller to be OFF when the external is plugged in. I want to do this with a transistor.

So I did sum reading and junk and came up with this.

A FET is a little excessive and there are no limiting resistors.

EDIT: Also, if you use any normal transistor, two pins will be connected to either positive or negative and the other to the opposite, depending on type.

But seriously, when I ask for help and I get these kind of comments it really pisses me off.
pisses me off too, but jlee said it, so its ok. plus, its my way of saying "i have no idea why a transistor would be used in this application, so i am gonna insult your knowledge" :dahroll:
