3D files of Gamecube stuff for 3D printing custom cases

Here is the .STL, .123DX, and .SAT files of the finished product. I test printed it today and it all works.

The only reason I bothered with the 123DX was because it includes the 3D model and the 2D sketches that basically are the framework for the entire thing just in case anyone wanted those.

I think it would be much easier if you just post the exact dimensions for the buttons and the mount part in the rear than making stencils. It's a lot easier to draw a couple circles and bean shapes than figure out how to import a stencil into whatever flavor of cad you're using.

Plus the hard part is the dimensions because most people will use the original buttons or classic controller buttons, but the dimensions for the anti-spin locks can change a little bit when they're 3d printed.

Yeah that's true but I couldn't figure out how to "measure" the x and y button cause of the shape. I traced them basically from a PDF I found of metroid prime's manual. There's not really a reason to make the other holes being they're all pretty easy to make but I figured I could make it availible anyways.

You can always improve the thread later!

How I draw them in a cad program is just two circles that are a height and length away from each other, and the two "bean" curves are just two more circles of a certain radius. Which are rather difficult to measure.

Yeah along with the fact it's pretty hard to replicate the buttons, the metroid prime book had them perfectly drawn. I'll do a test print soon of the one I created.

If anyone has a licensed version of Autodesk 123d let me know because I stupidly designed it in the free version and I can't export it as anything but an STL and I want the 2D file. Thanks!

Looks good! I'm curious if the a and b buttons spin at all? Since they're circular.

They do currently being I haven't added the gates on the other side. This was just a test to see if I had the hole sizes right.

Autodesk offers student discounts (free software). If you don't have a .EDU address, you can get one here

I've bought from this guy before, but never tried getting the Autodesk offer, so no guarantees if his emails work.

EDIT - Also though I should mention that I really like this idea and will most likely get use out of your templates in the future.

I have Autocad (a student verison) and can contvert .stl files into dxf, which can be exported to other formats (.dwg the most helpful in this situation). Not sure if that is helpful though, but a quick google search says that:

Files with the extension .123d (and similarly .123c) are stored from the CAD application "Autodesk 123D". Internally, these files are just 3D DWG files - so can rename them to .dwg to open them in the latest version of AutoCAD. Similar DWG files are stored from Inventor Fusion.

So not sure if it'll work the other way around, renaming a *.dwg file to *.123d but worth a shot I guess.

I've found a away to get a .SAT file from a .123DX file so that should be fine. I'm doing the final touches on it and then I'll upload it.

Are those button guards tall enough to account for the depression distance on your average tact switch?
 
I made them 2.1mm tall and my tact switch depresses ~1mm. You can edit the .SAT to whatever height you'd need easily too.
