I'm back from my long hiatus and i have to say excellent work!

It's definitely a first-party controller it has the nintendo gamecube controller on it and I since i got it off ebay that's probably the most reasonable scenario, i'll try to get pics later and a comparison

So, I had received this controller off of ebay a couple months back. However the only problem i have is that the buttons look and feel lower in the case than other gamecube controllers? Any ideas as to why this may be?

You should take it to the junkyard in this forum, there should be people who would want to take on the task. And i'm not able to tell what type of video it accepts. Mabye there is on there that i'm not familiar with.

I think you should check the wires to see if any part of the insulation looks torn or ripped which allows parts of the stranded wire to become loose, if you don't seen any try checking where you soldered too to see if any part of the wire isn't touching the contact.

Update About How The GCP is going: Im back for a bit on the forums and the gamecube portable is going to be back on track soon everyone :D
