Wireless audio

My friend asked me to make him a wireless audio cable so he could plug a little box into his speakers and plug a little box into the headphone jack on his laptop and it'll play the music on the speakers completely wire free. I was thinking about taking the transmitter and reciever chips out of a baby monitor and hooking them up to headphone plugs and putting a small rechargeable battery or something on it. Will a baby monitor be too low of quality? Is there something better I can use while still keeping it cheap?

Well if it's just a simple mic and speaker connection that could work, won't be stereo though.

Get an FM transmitter and a cheap pocket radio. It will plug right in, transmit in stereo, and should work over a reasonable distance.
