Wii Slim just announced!

The PS3 Slim and XBOX 360 S were good, but that just looks stupid. It's like what, a tiny bit smaller? And you lose GameCube support. Not worth it IMO.

They have not shown off pictures of it yet, that is just a stock pic. I agree, stupid in general, but totally great for portables!

It's probably only a changed disk drive, and I'd bet GC games would still run with a WKF, Sundriver, etc. Great for portables though.

This.

Crack it open and find the vias for GC ports. You know there too lazy to actually re-design the board. BTW I like this a lot, and for a holiday price, I'm makin' a wiip!

The only reason I'd ever make another WiiP is for commission or for another souped up GC with sundriver and homebrew capabilities, the GC itself is just too much fun for me.

To me, it sounds like this thing would be great for a WII portable that plays WII games. But then you have two problems;

1. You want to play wii games? :P
2. You've figured out how to incorporate the wiimote?

I suppose you could make a handheld, but don't feed me that half compatibility crap with the internal remote using the CC to select games, until you can find a way to properly use the IR in handheld format, handhelds are no good for a wii. Has anyone even made a proper one yet? I SAID PROPER, WIITARD. :P

Unless you are making a laptop, in which case the smaller size doesn't mean nearly as much. Could be neat though, if the things like, really, really tiny, I can see how it would be nice to slide a SL-68 sized unit out of your pocket, wiimote out of another, open it up like a lappy and play some wii. Portable NSMB wii like that would be full of win, then again I'm only thinking of playing the 3 wii games I actually enjoyed.

My thoughts on the hardware are simple, I mean, I don't think they could have done anything revolutionary:

1. The DD still has to be able to take a fullsized disc, so it's at least that big, unless they pulled crazy flax(think back to palmer's slimmed dvd drive, except the drive is the wii.)

2. Knowing Nintendo, they are using new DD's(probably slimmer, height wise) with more proprietary fun, expect no previous modchips to work. If we're lucky they got lazy and just changed around the pinout or the cable size, if not it's totally new hardware, but seeing as how at it's core it's still a Wii I doubt it would take too long before some new modchips are released. Unless they were REALLY lazy and it's the exact same thing. But seeing as how they released some different DD's along the original wii's lifespan, again, I think it's unlikely.

3. Palmer and I think Tchay already showed us how much the Wii could be trimmed, no one has really done it I don't think, but Ninty did waste a lot of space, so the riddles as to how they are releasing a smaller unit are virtually none, just this time they got a half decent engineer on the job.

3a. Hopefully it's all on the same mobo, and they didn't pull any of the same flax they did with the GC where it has like 3 daughterboards. Though I can't say I would be opposed to a separate power board, but that's only in the case that it doesn't take 7.4v right off the bat. :P

4. Not that we can't trim heatsinks, but it'd be cool if it had a low profile one with a fan mounted in it, save us some time, and them some space. I doubt it, but I can dream.

I can't say it's full of promise, or anything special, but feel free to surprise me. Maybe they did everything right for a change. I personally think this is just Nintendo's attempt at squeezing every drop of life it can out of the Wii(wait, it hasn't done that already?) before they move onto the Wii U.

This seems like another way for Nintendo to make money to me. Not like all of their products aren't, but this is way different than the 360 Slim. The 360 NEEDED to be upgraded. It was too loud, too big, and had too many issues. I can't find anything wrong with the Wii, and this new slim loses GC support? Really Nintendo?

TBH, if you're just now buying a Wii, chances are you don't need GC support anyway. How many years has it been since Gamecube games have been in retail stores? I dunno if they have them in GameStop even; the closest one to me is like an hour away.

Most people, I know that buy wiis only use them to play gamecube games.
And even after they have like 20 or 30 wii games. They still prefer playing gamecube games.

Exactly, like Hackerbilly said, everyone one I know who has a Wii, sold their gamecube, and plays their GC games on wii.
