voltages wouldn't change, it would just change the amperage pull. wiikey's pull is probably like 50-100mA which is somewhat negligible.

You do know that there is a Wii section, right?

I've heard it needs 12 volt to boot... It could be so that the disc drive needs 12V for the motors or something that the WKF doesn't need.
