What to do with my old (fat) DS

I got a 3DSXL for xmas and my old (original, fat) DS has a broken hinge anyway. Any ideas on what I could do with it? I am looking for an easy - moderate project. I have taken things apart for repairs, but have not tried a full assembly. I have a Sega Genesis with a ton of cartridges. Was thinking I could make a handheld out of it. Any thoughts or ideas would be greatly appreciated.
