Crazy Train
The other day, my computer teacher was cleaning out his lab from all the crappy donations he got from businesses and schools. he lifts up this huge metal box and says "take this to the dumpster" I ask if I can have it and he said sure. The thing wieghs over 100 pounds, but that's besides the point. It looks fairly nice and i was just wondering what it was and if it's worth anything. It says "catalyst 4506" on it. I googled it and this is what it looks like.

That's a Cisco Catalyst 4506 network switch. It's designed for large networks that need many gigabit connections with power-over-Ethernet capability. (Hence the two very large redundant power supplies.) They still go for a couple grand depending on what cards they have in them.

Unfortunately there really isn't anything else you can do with them, and you need to know Cisco IOS in order to configure them.

holy flax, a few grand? this has several cards in it so maybe I'll list it on ebay, but I'll be adamned it=f I can afford to ship something that heavy

What boards do you have?

Chances are if it was donated to your school, it's probably full of old stuff. You should be able to squeeze a few hundred out of it, assuming of course all the parts work.
