this may sound dumb but is it possible to get a gameboy that will play Gameboy color games that is the size of a pokemon mini, or something like that?

Sorry if this dosn't help but, You an buy a GBM and use a flash cart with it! Most flash carts will run all GB(A)(C) Games.

I want it to be self contained the only game i want is pokemon crystal and i want it to look like this

Yes you can do it, but.
Can use a DMG, Color, Pocket, Light, GBA or SP.
Your only bet would be the micro like stated above.
You could rewire the controls to a new board so theyr in the layout you like. You redo the ribbon cable to the screen. You turn the GBM sideways (So its not wide, but instead tall like you want) and the new controls mean you dont need the old ones. The Flashcart would have the games you want on it and your in business.
Its not feasable, will have a small screen but it can be done
The micro cant play anything but GBA Games

If you want it a bit bigger then that you can use the SP and make it like a GBC style GBA.

OBJECTION!

The GBA has A Gamboy original/gameboycolor emulator made for it.

I'll provide a link if needed.

GBM does not. Or at least youtube, reviews, wikipedia and my own gameboy micro are all lying

Re: very small gameboy (OBJECTIONS!)

But, I thought that some flashcarts could play GBC or gb games? Correct me if i'm wrong but, you could put the legitly obtained rom for PKMNC put it on the flashcart do the case mod for the GBM and have what inception is looking for?

It is not feasible, it will have a small screen, but it can be done.

I was talking about being able to play regular Carts, like Yellow or red version on the GBM. Plus, I meant they didnt have the ability to play them on their own.
Emulators yes you can, or else I wouldnt have written the long explination of how to make it

All the grammar!

You are looking for Goomba / Goomba Color. That is the name of the emulator that runs on the GBA, which emulates GB/C.
