Tchay's portable gamecube video guide

A while back, I made the mistake of mentioning to my subscribers that I was working on a video series to show one how to make a portable gamecube. I managed to get the first three episodes done before I got loaded up with commissions and other busy work. I tried explaining to my subys that it was going to be a little while, but they insisted that I at least show them the episodes I had completed.

So here is episode 1 of my portable gamecube "how to" series which I'm really just basing off the collaboration everyone has done in Kasar's amazingly epic gamecube guide. To stretch things out, I'm considering only uploading 1 episode per month. This will give me time to film episodes 4 and 5 (which will be easy since they involve taking the gamecube apart, and doing work on the motherboard). Granted this might drive people nuts having to wait a whole month, so we'll have to see...

My main goal is to have this series kind of go alongside Kasar's guide and hopefully assist newcomers as they read through his guide. Eventually I want to expand Kasar's guide as well. It kind of stops midway when you think about it.

So anways....here it is:

Funny :P I was also planning on making a video guide to build a gamecube portable. Seems you beat me to the punch.

Do it anyway! Your portables are eons better than mine so people would benefit.

Nice video episode, tchay!
Will you show how to reallocate a GC controller? Like with kasar's method or ashen's cut controller method?

Will you show how to wire up a WKF or wode?

Great start, man :) looking foward to Ep2 of the seires.

it looks exciting, love the music :).

glad you liked it :) and I'm not sure if I'm going to use an actual disc drive or a wiikey fusion for this portable guide. Maybe I'll show both. Oh and I'll try to show a variety of controller wiring schemes to give newcomers some options.

It's nice what you are doing but the video is way too short. If all the videos will be this short it will be a pain to watch the whole guide.
I also think you should explain why you need the tools instead of just listing them. You can build a portable even if you lack some of the tools.
Wouldn't it also be good to have like an introduction to get people to grasp how the process is going to be since the guide is directed towards beginners that might not have understood all the different aspects that a portable consists of?

PS You should narrate the videos

That's some really good feedback. I'm just going with a different approach for my guide. No, not all the videos will be this short, and the video length will vary a lot depending on what is happening in the episode. And it will become pretty obvious why you need most of the tools I listed :P I personally like short and "to the point" videos that are part of a guide, because it helps users to pinpoint what they need help with instead of digging through a longer 10-20 minute video to find it. And by the end of the guide (assuming I finish the whole darn thing) beginners will know all the different aspects of a portable ;)

I actually am thinking about narrating some later episodes that are more modding intensive.

Hey everyone! Here is episode 3 of my portable gamecube video guide:

Taking Apart The GameCube:

Also, I will be adding all of my episodes to the Kasar GameCube Guide in the megastickies of the gamecube section. So now you can follow along with the written guide and see the video demonstrations of each topic.

Hopefully it's helpful to newcomers :)

nice video update, there tchay :)
so part IV will be the awesome modding stuff like soldering wires etc?

sweet!

this is getting exciting as the episodes roll on.

how many ep's will the guide be? +13?

Well we are still 2 episodes away from wiring. But the next two episodes are still fun.

It's hard to say how many episodes it will take to make an entire portable. I'm hoping to keep it around 15 episodes long. And I'd like to eventually do another series for more serious modding and maybe show how to make your own Envision style portable.

It will be nice to see a video of how to build one rather than just looking at images and hoping you are doing it right based off them. At least now (for potential beginners like myself) we will have something to follow along with.

Also do you know what kind of trimming job you will be doing for this?

Can't wait to see more!

It will be a very simple trim for this portable. I don't want to get too risky for beginners that are following along.
