soldering to batteries?

Hey there folks!

So my question for all of you fine folks here is about batteries for portables. Specifically these ones/types:

this has a built in protection board already in the battery for charging protection.

and then these ones:

the second doesn't mention of a protection circuit but I could add one in myself.

for these types of batteries, i'm not quite sure of how to connect my wires to them as I have heard to never solder directly to the battery itself.

So, how would I accomplish installing these into a portable without blowing them up?

Rough up the contacts with sandpaper, tin wires and contacts with liberal flux, and try not to keep the iron on too long. It shouldn't take more than a second for a strong joint to form. Using flux means you don't need to sit there and heat up the contact with the iron, which seems iffy as far as safety goes.

Okay. I knew there had to be some method of doing it but I didn't want to blow something up by not asking someone first haha. Thanks Bush!

yeah, soldering to batteries isn't a great idea. I have seen people spot-weld tabs onto batteries and then solder to those.
