Regulator board suicide?

Hey I'm making my first Portable and I have a major problem the board. I started working inside the GC a few days ago, and all I have done so far is remove all the serial ports and relocate the regulator board and connect it using 5V. When I tested the console, the sound was all fuzzy. I tried a few different analog and digital speakers, but it was always fuzzy. None of the wires connecting the regulator board touched, although two were close, and eventually, when I least suspected, the regulator board died  I know that on /viewtopic.php?f=36&t=1654 It says how to replace/bypass the fuse on the regulator board, but I don't want to try without figuring out why my reg. board died.
Any advice? I tested the reg. board w/ a multimeter to make sure that it was not working.

I have a 14.4V 3300mah NiMh battery, but at the time I was running it off of wall power from the original power supply.

Re: ?Regulator board suicide??????

Use a multimeter to see if you can get anything of the regulator board.

Re: ?Regulator board suicide??????

I already tested it with a multimeter, and the Fan works, but the Reg. Board just shows 0.00V no matter where I connect the multimeter leads.
My 5V wire is 24 AWG, but I have 3 connected together for more current flow.

?Regulator board suicide??????

You probably blew the white fuse on the board. Try bridging the fuse and see if it works.

Re: Regulator board suicide??

Its working now-- Thanks man! you might have just saved me $20. The only problem is I still don't know why it blew in the first place. Any ideas?

OK that helps. I just don't want components randomly blowing in the final product. but if you blew that many and they still work fine, I won't worry.

Make sure you replace the fuse and remove the solder bridge- otherwise, you'll fry the GC if something goes wrong.
