ps1 slim menu booting on ps1 fat

I got the ps1 slim menu to boot on the ps1 fat by desoldering the boot rom on the ps1 slim (IC102), and replacing it with the boot rom on the ps1 fat.

ROM desoldered from ps1 slim -

and then soldered into the ps1 fat -

Thanks for fixing that. I was going to try and figure out how to put a serial port on the ps1 slim, but I ended up doing this pointless mod instead .

Good mod for PSp's, as you could put the original menu on a slim PSp, just for coolness/ authentic feel.

I was looking at getting one of these: http://pdf1.alldatasheet.com/datasheet- ... 8C040.html which has all the same specs as the original mask rom in the ps1. The only difference is that this is an eeprom and can be reprogrammed.

My plan is to get the lcc package and rig up a socket so I can easily reprogram it with my willem programmer, and then go to work hacking the bios for a custom splash screen. Then when people build portables, they can boot up their ps1p's and be greeted by the name of their portable or something like that .
