Photo editing question

What's it called when a photo is edited to have multiple "frames"? Not sure if that's the right way to put it, so I'll give an example.

I learned this when making my super-old "clone" photos. You take multiple images (for that jump, it was probably a burst shot) and put them all on layers in your favorite image editing program. Then you erase from the upper layers where the person would be on the bottom layer.

This is a super crappy explanation, but my laptop battery is dying and I don't feel like elaborating. If you have questions, go ahead and ask.
