I desoldered the 2 2mb ram chips from my n64, then I replaced them with 2 4mb ram chips from expansion packs. I was able to test it with a jumper pack, and it loaded up games that require an expansion pack.
Since the n64 was working at that point, I'm going to guess my problem probably isn't bad soldering on the ram chips. My troubles started when I removed the expansion pack slot and tried to do a jumper pack relocation like this one: viewtopic.php?f=33&t=628
I followed the diagram with the exception of C5 which I excluded completely, and instead of tying all the gnd pins together, I just ran one gnd wire from the n64 to the jumper pack.
I used 30 gauge wire, and the wires are all really short.
Any ideas?
