N64 controller: joystick to d-pad downgrade?

this may sound stupid, but is it possible for a n64 joystick to be changed into a d-pad? i hate the joystick for the n64 and would much rather have a d-pad (plus would be real unique :p) if possible, could someone tell me how? (doesent have to be specific)

I asked the same thing a while back ago on benheck forums. It is possible but you would need a third party controller. d-pads also don't have sensitivity like joysticks do so it would always be 100% pushed. For example, if you were playing Super Mario 64, Mario would always run as opposed to being able to walk. But if you don't care about that, it is completely possible.

Here's an idea- get a small joystick, like a retrobit one, and attach a Dpad to the top of it, so that it still has resistance when you're pushing. Either that, or use squishy tact switches, as they have variable resistance the more they're pressed.
