My GCp Worklog Design Update

I am starting a GCp from a Rev. C gamecube as my first portable. :D I have already torn it apart and I ordered the screen and got some sample cases coming. And I want to know if I can use hot glue to hold down wire contacts instead of solder. I will get pictures as soon as I can find my micro sd adapter and this is where I will continues to ask questions. Thanks for any answers from questions ahead of time. :dahroll:

Why not just use solder?

I was looking at others worklogs and they have hotglue and was wondering if they used it to reenforce the solder or used it to connect the contacts thats all :)

Re: My GCp Worklog

Solder then hotglue. That's why it's there; to keep the wires from tearing things off or breaking.

Re: My GCp Worklog

Only hot glue will fail. It's non-conductive. And it'll be more of a pain in the ass holding it RIGHT on the contact and then hot gluing and making sure it stays there than soldering it would be.

Re: My GCp Worklog

What you are seeing is people securing their soldering with hotglue. Works wonders.

Re: My GCp Worklog

Ok so I looked around that forums and did some searching and was wondering how much amperage I would need to run the gamecube and the 12v pustom screen I still have not gotten and possibly what voltages I could use for them both. Again, thanks and if I did not look everywhere I am sorry.

Re: My GCp Worklog

That screen is TINY. Especially on a GCp, unless it's the smallest GCp ever made.

My GCp Worklog *Update*

this time I have pics cause I got my bluetooth dongles and now a few jobs will be cleaner since I got the de-soldering pump.

yeah crappy jobs, I'll clean them up more later.

Oh! this is the work station I used...

...not much is it? I was on a very low budget.

And I tried removing the reset switch...

...didn't work well afterwards, but I will add it back on.

I had a dvd player and attacked it with a dremel and this is how it turned out...

...of course I had to gut it out, but after I tried it with the dd in it...it didn't work. I pulled it out of the case and tried it without it, but the controller didn't work worth crap.

But this is what I did to the DD plastic to get it to work.

This is the mobo so you all can see.

Here is my screen I may mod to use USB so I can switch between future portables...NES *cough*

And that is a cord from a trashed external HDD, it is a 12v and 2A

Now for questions, when I tried it each time after messing with it a lot it made crappy static sounds, can anyone tell me why, I am using an RFU box and it has work just fine before for the GC?

Re: My GCp Worklog

I just got a controller board and used it to run the GC and when it booted up, it made an ugly static sound and then it went to the screen in smash bros. saying that there was no memory card in slot A, there was, I pressed A then it like froze from there. Does anybody know what is wrong? :?

Re: My GCp Worklog Question Design Update

Here is what I am looking at for my portables, design.
GCpdesign.jpg

This would reuse some part of the GC case and would allow me to later on switch out the screen when I do get a different screen, plus allow me the connect it to a tv, when I want.
And then off topic from my portable, which battery is best for replacing a gbc save battery?

small bump
Do you think if I took an Intec battery pack apart I could use use the protection circuit and replace the batteries I could use it for the portable?
