MGB backlighting help. :(

MR, I'm sad!
i have an extreme green MGB that I'm trying to backlight. I'd successfully removed the polarized film from the LCD, and I even tested it to make sure the ribbon cable hadn't been damaged. It worked. As soon as I soldered the wires into place (and they are soldered into the correct places), I tested it again. Either the light will work or the LCD will "work" (i can adjust contrast, but it's just a bunch of vertical lines). The sound works with the LCD, too, but not with the light. I've de-soldered and re-soldered, I've disconnected and reconnected the ribbon cable, I've even switched both the LCD AND the mobo from my successfully backlit MGB. It didn't fix the problem. I'm worried that I totally damaged both of my LCD ribbon cables, but I really don't know what's wrong.

I use these. VB.

Any idea what I'm doing wrong? I'm super frustrated. :/

EDIT: Oh yeah, and the first time I tried this, I totally wrecked the first LCD's ribbon cable. I manhandled it too much and the chunky bit of cable at the bottom of the back of the LCD got all *Can'tSayThisOnTV*y. Needless to say, the screen didn't work. I've tried to be super careful with the other two, but maybe I'm just too clumsy with them. I dunno.

You could do this for your missing lines on the screen:

it worked for all of my gameboys.

And the problem you have with the speaker not working could possibly be fixed by making sure you aren't closing up your gameboy(s) with too much pressure (wires getting in the way) because it could possibly lead to some problems such as that.

This might help too with just installing the backlight (just to check if you did something wrong):

Thanks, yo.

I figured it out, though.
I just literally *Can'tSayThisOnTV*ed up three mgb screens.
Whatevs. Kinda sucks.

It happens. MGB screens are very finicky. Worst case is when the nasty sticky residue from the reflector stays on the LCD and you have to spend ages taking it off all the while not disturbing the ribbon cables.
