Itunes alternatives

I just installed Windows 7 on my computer because I got it free through MSDNAA. I left behind a desktop overflowing with useless icons and pretty much everything on my hard drive. I wanted to start fresh. I'm in the process of copying over all the music from my ipod right now. I've heard that there are better alternatives to itunes that can be used to manage ipods. Does anyone here use an itunes alternative? If so, I'd like to hear some input. Is it worth using an alternative? What do you guys think the best one is?

FLAC. I love Foobar.

Foobar is good. Takes a bit of initial setup, but it's so customizable.
