IT GODDang FELL OFF MY BATHROOM COUNTER.

As much as I diss on Apple, this pretty much is essential for my day to day activities porn. How much would one of you charge to fix it? I'd appreciate it if you didn't charge for the service and only charged for what it costs to fix it, I'd prefer this to be a bro-for-bro thing

My dad uber cracked his. He took it alpine sliding. He has'nt has it fixed yet.(it's been like a year)(held together by a screen protector )

I can't tell, is just the digitizer top part cracked or did you bust the LCD too? Or both? They're separate parts. A cursory ebay search suggests around $40 questionably-legit parts (assuming the LCD is also broken). I'd assume you'd want another glass digitizer, not a plastic knockoff, but if cost is an issue that's a route. Could probably get down to $25 then. Of course if you're not worried about cost, you can get the guaranteed legit parts from RapidRepair, but that's $100 screen/digitizer.

If your digitizer is all that's busted, that's a far cheaper fix. ~$5 plastic, ~$20 glass. Or you can do what I did for my zune, and just get a screen protector (or saran wrap and electrical tape in my case) to keep the shards from popping out.

I'm broke as flax but if you cover shipping too I'd be happy to fix it, whichever way you wanted to go. Depending on how far away you are from Rochester NY, it might just be cheaper to head to the Apple store and see what their repair costs would be.

Its really super easy to fix yourself. There are plenty of tut's on how to do it floating around on the net. Like Aux said though, you may only need the digitizer and not the whole LCD assembly.

I'll hitch a ride to Portland tomorrow and see what the Crapple store can do. I don't have a receipt or anything, but I'm pretty sure it's still under warrenty.

If they can't do flax, I'll buy a glass digitizer and see what I can do.

Does the Apple store accept jailbroken iPods? And will they like update it and flax?

If you jailbreak it, it voids the warranty, I'd set it back to factory settings BEFORE you bring it back.

They don't accept jailbroken ones (but you can reset the software, or whatever, and it clears the jailbroken-ness) but they also don't cover accidentals in their warranties,so they're not going to fix that thing for free. And they're going to charge you upwards of $200 to get that screen fixed. yes, JUST the screen. At least, that's what they wanted me to pay. But at the mall I normally go to, there are a bunch of kiosks that'll do it much cheaper, like $50-$70. You could look around for those if you don't want to repair it yourself.

How can I tell if the LCD is broke or not?

If the LCD breaks, it oozes crap that blacks out part of the screen and has a red outline. If it's just the front screen, it'll just look like a regular old crack.

If it's still broken, I could possibly do it after I research a little bit, I've fixed plenty of 2Gs, but never a 4. If I was to repair it, I would charge parts + shipping. So it would be like $35-40.
