I think I fried my Wiikey. Help.

Ok, so I wasn't as epic as ShockSlayer and get it working on my first try. I wired it all up and turned my Game Cube on. Heres a synopsis of what happens:

If I don't touch it, it gives me the error after 5 seconds saying I have no disk drive.
If I hold down the Eject switch (which is normally closed) it flashes between reading disk and insert disk.
If I let go of the Eject switch, the little red light flashes and shortly after, I get the no DD message.
The lid switch does nothing.

I am pretty sure that I have it wired up correctly. I don't think that I'd do anything if I made an actual soldering error.

I don't have any SD card inserted, but I have the slot plugged into the Wiikey.

Help, pwease...

Thanks in advance.

Edit: If this matters, I was messing around with the Wiikey when the GC was on when it froze and the controller started to vibrate. Hmm...

Re: My Wiikey is not working. Help.

If you get an error message then you have a short or it's not wired correctly, that's all there is to it.

Your switch is not normally closed if you have to hold it down to get this effect. This is how it normally should act when not pressing anything. Either that or you have the switch wired wrong.

Re: My Wiikey is not working. Help.

Ok I somehow got it to work. I put in a formatted SD card and it booted straight into the menu. I figured out that with a little fiddling, I can get it to show the GC Linux image on the boot screen.

Just to verify, there is no possible way I would ever get to the menu if I had a short or I wired something wrong, right?

Thanks,
SQ

Nope. You must have it right now. The reason it boots right to the menu is because its not on firmware 1.5. You'll need to update it to have everything working properly.

Re: My Wiikey is not working. Help.

Not to thread jack or anything, but Ashen, is it possible to design any custom firmware for the wiikey? Like booting straight into it or not having to push a button for it to boot?

Or have you told the wiikey team about this mod?

Re: My Wiikey is not working. Help.

Yea, The Wiikey guys know about what we've done: http://www.wiikey.com/en/news/ :D

However I seriously doubt that the GC will ever be officially supported by them. They've been made aware of the various incompatibility's we've found. Such as NTSC IPL v1.0 not working, NTSC Luigi's Mansion error (which also happens on the Wii), etc. They've not responded in any way about these issues though. From what emu_kidid has stated he's contacted them many times along with the rest of us about support, custom firmware, etc. No responses though. Apparently they are busy with a 360 project/device they're working on.

I think I fried my Wiikey. :( It doesn't work anymore. Every time I turn my Game Cube on, it gives me the error. The blue light doesn't come on.

What could have happened? I didn't even do anything to the Wiikey. I just walked into my room, turned my GC on and the Wiikey didnt work.

Never mind. I got it to work again. Somehow...

Ashen: I tried ripping one of the regs off the top of my board and it killed it. I had to solder it back on again to have a working mobo. :wtf:
