I killed my screen?

So I bought a 4.3" screen on ebay. I got it today and I tried it out. I used a gamecube ac adapter for the 12v input, but when I turned it on, I got white smoke coming from the display. I quicky tured it off. Now it won't do anything. Did I just kill my screen?

Smoke is usually a good sign you messed up somehow.

It sounds like it'd be fried if it came from the screen itself, yes.
