I have a couple of questions before starting?

1. Depending on what batteries you use, you'll need more than two batteries to run a gamecube, unless you build your own power converter, but it's recommended to use 3 batteries for 11.1v battery or 4 for a 14.8v battery. You'll also want to use a protection circuit for the batteries.
2. Yes you can use a rumble on/off switch, it's recommended to use an led in it's stead because some games require rumble, so when you turn off the rumble the led turns on.
3. You don't even need the board, you just need to use wires and wire to the controller and clock battery.
4. It will not use any extra battery when you have extra ports, and controllers use so little battery anyway that you won't notice a difference when they're not plugged in.

Reading through this guide is really good for beginners.

Thanks very much for your help :D
You'll see an awesome GC mod in a couple of months  :awesome:
Only one thing though...I did not understand this part...

I wish to do the part in red not green.
I have some skill with pc boards, but don't know what to do about the memory cards...are the memory cards soldered in? or screwed?
*Stickied the guide by the way, but it says nothing about MemoryCard rerouting...
Edit: Apparently they look to be soldered http://i52.tinypic.com/bios2w.jpg, so must I use wires to connect both the mc area (green) and the mc and put them somewhere else...as so...

Yes you can desolder and remove those, I warn you however those are the most annoying part of the gamecube to remove, you have to be very careful with them not to break them or pull out and pins when desoldering or the memory card won't read. The memory card slots are very stubborn to desolder. I plan to actually use some chip quik on them next time I desolder memory card slots.
