This will be the lowest cost, as well as simplest GCp ever made (It has less than 10 parts). I'm aiming for the total cost to be under 150$ to make. I'm not aiming for it to be tiny, but well documented and simple to make. I will not use ANY GLUE in the making of this portable.

So moving on:

Specs:

Todo:
  • Remove connectors from the gamecube motherboard
    Order parts
Put new thermal paste (AS5) on heatsink
    Connect Wiikey Fusion
    Re-connect fan
    Cut holes in the ZN40
    Hardwire the screen
Find some standoffs to use with the motherboard
Hardwire the SD Gecko and Memory Card
Buy + Make Battery pack (After main part is finished)

Pics later TODAY!... (Shocker.)

Will be updated as progress is made.

Question : Should I post the worklog/guide in the first post, and then bump for progress, or post it separately?

Worklog

1st Update (6/16/2011) :
Here's a picture of what's here so far

2nd Update (6/26/2011) :
10 Days of progress to show. Not really.
I've messed up the thermal paste that I put on, because I had to remove the heatsink and put it under a belt-sander to make it less tall. I've also got the Wiikey about halfway wired up and will connect it tommorow. Pics will come when the WiiKey is connected and working.

3rd Update (7/15/2011) :
So. I've finished wiring the WiiKey Fusion up, but hit the ribbon cable with my soldering iron like an idiot, and have to wait for a new one to get here. Once that arrives, I can hardwire the memory card, casework, and then hopefully finish by the end of summer break. I also got an SL68p sample in the mail, and it's absolutely minuscule. I've decided to not have an integrated controller, because of the Mp orientation of the console, and the fact that the screen takes up the entire front of the ZN40.
Pics of everything laid out soon.

4th Update (8/16/11) :

Worked on the wiikey etc, and now have pics (56k beware) I've also started on the case, and may take a suggestion to make a "clipon" controller to snap onto the front of my GCp

Copy from troubleshooting thread.

Okay, so I've made sure every wire is seperated and trimmed a bit of some of the wires, and now the light stays on ~4x as long, but still no video, and it still doesn't stay on.

mine is similar but has an integrated controller i figure if i use a big screen it can be my excuse for my portable to be as big as it is :awesome:

what you could do for quick conversion is make a gamecube controller which plugs into slot 1 and has left analog stick and dpad on left side of screen and start abxyz and c stick on other
it would add to the length but can be removed.
a seperate accessory, if you will :tophat:
you can make it by cutting another zn40 in half and put on on each side with something to go around back, or under, or over the portable multiplayer gamecube
make sure the 3 other ports are still open so you could play on it with 3 other looking over your shoulder

also if this thing is made to be a portable console but not handheld, no need some sort of auto detection composite video out or rgb depending on where you are. you if theres a tv nearby, use that

Looking good! For that heatsink, I suggest you make some sort of "wall" on the sides, so that the air blown from the fan is channeled across the heatsink instead of going everywhere. Even some electric tape running across the sides would help.
