GC Wavebird - C Stick doesn't work (Complete beginner)

I'm a complete beginner.

I'm trying to troubleshoot why the C-stick on this Wavebird isn't working. All of the connections look good to me. Can you guys look at these pictures and tell me what could be the problem? Everything else on the controller works fine, but the C stick is unresponsive.

- What is the brown residue around some of the solder points?
- Do I just need to replace the joystick box?

That residue looks to be flux from the soldering points. It may be that something internal to the C-stick may be broken? Can't really see what else it would be because everything else looks fine to me.

You may be able to find a replacement online and if you can solder it shouldn't be hard to replace.
