Gamepad Cubed Portable Gamecube worklog. First portable Help

I had the idea of putting a Gamecube into a Wii U Gamepad. As you can't actually buy a Gamepad I desided that I'd use a Gamepad protective case, so I have:
(I'll put links to everything when I'm on my computer)
-6.2 inch screen
-3 Gamecubes and 2 controllers
-The Gamepad protective case
-Several tools

Things I need:
-speakers
-batteries

I plan to have it use the normal disc drive then maybe I will make another with a wii key after.

PLEASE NOTE. I haven't done any kind of portablising or modding, this is my first project so HELP would be greatly appreciated. ^^
I will post pictures of progress and be asking questions alot so bear with me ^^;
THANKS!

Where did you get your screen? I've had my eyes on this: http://www.aliexpress.com/store/product ... 13336.html , but I'm still browsing.

I don't know how you're going to fit a DD in the gamepad. I just opted for the Wiikey to save the hassle.

Turns out I'm doing pretty much the same project, but I'm just gonna keep it a plug-in system for the first prototype. Can't help ya on the batteries. :/

I dunno about speakers yet either.
But it's definitely going to be harder with a disc drive.

Gonna be interesting to see how different ours turn out.

It's nice to have someone who's doing the same thing ^^That is the screen I got but i got it from ebay and got a 12 volt charger from amazon

For the DD I'm buildiing a little wooden extention at the back (out of the way of the grip and back buttons) i just have to cut the case a little.
To be honest, Wii key would be a lot easier but first off i want to able to play my Gamecube discs on there ^^;

Also, i've just finished relocating the regulator board and testing to screen.
Batteries.... Maybe I'll do a plug in one first too XD

I've soldered the regulator board back on and i have an led on indicating power but no picture.

HHHHEEEEEEEELLLLLPPPPPPP!!!!!!!

Re: Gamepad Cubed Portable Gamecube worklog. First portable

Make sure you bridged all of the connections you had to. I am doing a very similar project, but my case will be vacuum formed. It will be about the same size and general look of the WiiU gamepad. BTW, are you going to do the VGA mod with the screen you have? I have the exact same screen, and I plan on using progressive scan.

God! Why did you stripped those wires that much? Also, looks like your GC got a wash. Make sure the video connector isn't corroded. Try get the video signal directly to the chip or a certain capacitor.

Re: Gamepad Cubed Portable Gamecube worklog. First portable

I used the first board i started on and desoldered what i did wrong with my new iron and IT WORKS!

(sorry for the fuzzyness, tell me if you want me to take it again)

Thanks for the advice above btw~!!

I re-did it and it works ^^
What's the VGA mod? And why is it necessary? Can't you just use the AV input?

Re: Gamepad Cubed Portable Gamecube worklog. First portable

The VGA Mod is just to get better video quality on your GCP. You need the Chip from a component cable to use it, mod it, and have a screen that accepts 15khz and 31khz VGA. The only known screens that have this are Dalian Good Displays. Plus it costs like $100+ for the cable alone. You are better off using AV. Don't get me wrong VGA is SO much better than AV, but its expensive.

I might invest in that in the future then~ but you're right, for now I will stick with AV, thanks though ^^
I'm modding my case atm, kinda frankencasting it ^^; i just haven't found anything good to cut up the controller case with yet, any suggestions?

I decided on using DS buttons because the GC ones didn't fit ^^; and I'm lazy~

Re: Gamepad Cubed Portable Gamecube worklog. First portable

Just a suggestion before going any further, I had a little trouble being sure that the GC Motherboard and heatsink would fit properly into the case with things like buttons and a screen directly above it. I would be absolutely SURE that everything will fit within the space of the case.

Re: Gamepad Cubed Portable Gamecube worklog. First portable

Don't worry ^^ I'm cutting out the back of the case to fit everything in and then putting a wooden frame around that (which i will make~)
