Gameboy Pocket with AA's?

Has anyone ever done this? I was planning on getting a Gameboy light, but with they're a bit pricey even used. I figure I could just grab a gameboy pocket, a replacement screen lens, and a backlight for about half the cost. The only problem is that it uses AAA's, so I was hoping there was some way I could get my Eneloops to fit.

If that is absolutely not possible (nothing's impossible right?) then I do have a "for parts" GBA SP and battery. Is there a guide anywhere on how to wire the rechargeable battery up?

Funnily enough, I did this once. I cut the battery compartment out of the case, snipped off the tabs and epoxied one of these in place.

Easy enough if you can solder and are decent at case work. Just make sure to check the width of the battery case to make sure it'll fit to the back of the Pocket. Sticks out a bit, but not enough to be uncomfortable.

Would upload a pic, but I think it was chucked when I was having a clear up.

Do you want it to look good, or just work? I would transplant the battery holder from a GBC if looks are a priority. It would probably be difficult to make the posted battery holder look good.

I would like it to look good, but I suppose there isn't much room behind the battery bay to make it fit flush?

How about a different approach: How hard would it be to add a 3rd or even 4th AAA battery?
