My friend found this old yellow Gameboy Pocket. However, instead of getting 6-10 hours of battery life, it's only getting 1. Any ideas?

Is this with fresh batteries?

Are they normal alkalines or 1.2V rechargables?

Does anything seem off about it externally, such as LCD screen inconsistencies or strange buzzing/hissing from the speaker or headphone jack?

Is he using a normal cartridge or a flash cartridge?

Has this had a history of liquid damage or other kinds?

The more detail you provide, the better an answer can be provided, and less questions have to be asked.

He's using alkalines that he recharges with his magic alkaline charger. We also got a seemingly fresh pair from the computer teacher that had the same problem.

No.

Normal.

Not as far as we know. It's in very good condition, no visual damage.
It was sitting in his basement for years, if that helps.
