Game Boy SP possibility?

Hey guys i am currently working on a seperate Mod for a GameBoy Color and i had an idea one day whilst playing my GBA SP, do you think that there is a way to some how in some way hook a 3DS analog Joystick where the D Pad is on the SP. I have looked around and it is not hard to find the joystick the only thing that i can think of as the problem would be figuring out the up down left right of the joystick.

it wouldn't be easy, it may not even be possible. The 3DS analog stick uses a standard and much more modern way of transferring data to the gameboy. The gameboy uses 4 different tact switches or something similar, so you'd have to find an ingenious way of adapting the signal from the analog stick to the D-pad.
