DMG Backlight

I wanted to do my first REAL mod other than a button-swap between one or two controllers... ...and I was thinking, "Hmm. It would be cool to backlight my DMG, as those things are so darn hard to see. It's supposed to be an easy mod, too."

Is this good for a first real mod, and also, how much would this cost? And what particular parts and tools will I need and which ones would you recommend? I have a DMG and Pokémon Red and Blue to test it with. Thanks.
