Could we use a wii component cable for playing the gamecube in 480p?

Nope.

You can play GC games in 480p on the Wii with it, but you can't make it work on the GC. There is a reason GC component cables sell for so much online and why you don't see a third party version.

That's very interesting, I wasn't aware that more recent developments were made. I'll have to give that thread a more thorough read later.

Still though, from just glancing at that thread the projected cost still makes the cable pretty expensive.
