to have av out in a portable, does the screen need to have av out or do you wire that yourself?

Why wire a switch? I'm making that all connected, and then a switch to turn off the screen. Even if the screen gets no AV in, it will still be running and using up precious mAh, if you turn it off, it doesn't.

You can use a switch like that for the AV or for the power. It does save battery life though if you use the switch for power.

do you use a 6 pin switch and wire the negatives to the parallel pins?

3-pin works just fine.

To ground on the motherboard. They can be connected all the time.
