Turn on the n64 without a game in while holding your finger on the RCP chip. If the chip gets extremely hot within 15 or 20 seconds, chances are it's fried.
That my friend is the RCP test.

If it doesnt get burning hot,you're in the clear. Go back and check all your connections, I was having similar issues and it turned out one of the pins was barely connected to a ground strip.

Back from the dead!!!! I got it working on batteries and with a ps1 screen. Also crammed it all (aside from the screen) in an old answering machine case, and planning to Franken-case a part for the screen on top because there is no room inside for that, however there is room for a controller board. Pics tomorrow...
