Increasing controller dead zones?

So, being a less patient member without a multimeter, I ask: does anyone know of a good way to increase the dead zones on analog controls so as to stop drifting and misspresses


I ask because I found a couple of Xbox controllers in a junk pile, and I hope to make the junk part a misnomer...
