7808 problem

I hooked up my 14.8v battery to a 7808 and I was only getting about six volts off of the 7808. Isn't it supposed to be 8 volts? Is there something I need to adjust?

not sure why it wasnt working but it is now, i noticed it gets really hot, what could i use for a heat sink, or why could I buy one i could use for it?

I sure hope so. If it doesn't work, you can always use a nut and bolt to hold it on.

Works fine for any linear regulator I've used it with.
