Back from the dead!!!! I got it working on batteries and with a ps1 screen. Also crammed it all (aside from the screen) in an old answering machine case, and planning to Franken-case a part for the screen on top because there is no room inside for that, however there is room for a controller...

If you jailbreak it, it voids the warranty, I'd set it back to factory settings BEFORE you bring it back.

as far as I know, it is a digital potentiometer, and you might be better off making your own audio amp and using a switch to go to the headphone jack. There probably is a better way of doing that (like tapping into the audio out before you get to the digital potentiometer) but I couldn't tell...
