I've yet to fry a motherboard (humble brag), But I'm certain there is a need for pre-cut boards. Thinking back to about a year ago, I would have definitely considered buying one.
I can confirm that these do not rotate. (Except a few degrees of rotation allowed by bending of the rubber.) I haven't personally used them in place of controller buttons, but they should probably work as well as anything else. That, and they are cheap.

If I were making a hinged portable, I'd ditch the batteries and make it run on USB similarly to the CurvyCube. This would eliminate the aforementioned heat issues and probably result in a more aesthetically pleasing device. That's just me, though. Good luck on your project. I'm sure with enough...

Where did you get the batteries, and can you confirm their authenticity? I found them on fasttech, but the price seems too good to be true.
