i assume by 2/3rds the size you plan to run the FFC connector to the opposite side of the board? if so take a look at that cap there and make sure you can clear it. im sure you have done proper research and have noticed that cap is in different locations depending on which motherboard you have...

its not impossible to hand solder the FFC connector. I always hand solder everything ... ive even hand soldered 0.4mm pitch and even soldered wired direct to a BGA because i didnt have access to proper equipment at the time to remount the BGA... many people can hand solder fine pitch components...

nice copy cat...but OSHpark will only make boards in 2 sizes... 1.6mm default thickness or 0.8mm thickness for an extra fee... If you have already purchased a set from oshpark and if they have arrived and if you have inspected them altready then im sure you know the 0.8mm is just a little bit...

there is only one way to troubleshoot this: desolder the wires and see it if starts up... if there was a short im sure you would have other issues with the GC in general but if the problems did not start till you tried to solder those connections then you need to suspect that is related to the...

soldering to either side of the filters is fine....think about this: V5 is soldered onto the DVD port pads on the filtered side V6 is soldered to the "unfiltered" side.... it doesnt make a difference, i mix and match both sides when doing V6...whatever works to make contact is good enough...

i dont really see anything obvious....might want to check pin23 on the FFC connector...make sure there is no short there... also double check DVD filters pin 7 and 9 to make sure there is no short there also...
