SNES Controller to Cartridge Pins

I need a little help from you guys, I can't seem to find out if the SNES controllers directly go to the cartridge pins, or if there is a chip or two inbetween that path.

The reason I am asking is because I bought a RetroBit Super Retro Advance Adapter with the intention of making a pure GBA console. As far as I read online the adapter only draws 5V power and the controller input from the SNES, so I was thinking I could make my own breadboard with specifically only those two necessary things on it.

Is that possible?

No direct pins.

You would need to find a chip to convert signals and whatnot.
In all honesty it might be worth looking at a different solution.

I would ask this on a more specific forum such as the nesdev forums.
