OUYA Handheld / Portable Build Log

I've had a few people suggest that I mirror my build logs to this forum...and answer questions regarding them....so here goes. This couple of posts will just be pics of where I am so far and how I got there. I'll annotate subsequent posts as I go along. I've got 2, soon to be 3 builds going, each time I get it smaller. I've never built portables before so each one is its own learning experience. I know the first pic is ridiculous looking but its what got me started on all this.

Version 1: split controller type, or OUYAGear (its starting to feel a bit like a GameGear at this point)

The salient points for version 1 are:
-the OUYA itself should not be modified. It should plug into the handheld unit but still be removable so that it can be used in its original enclosure.
-5" screen
-should use original controller for maximum game compatibility
-touch pad to be relocated

Version 2, controller undermount type, or GamebOUYA (the original sketch kind of looks like a wide body Gameboy)

Basic ideas:
-should be smaller than the V1
-5inch screen
-monochrome coloring; means modeling and printing new face buttons
-OUYA itself can be modded to make it smaller
-should still use original controller (or controller board) for game compatibility

Looking good! What kind of battery life are you getting/expecting? Do you have more detailed build logs elsewhere?

Thanks! Currently I'm only getting about 4hrs or so. I've never portablized before so these are my first two. I've got plans for a third one where I think I can manage to get two batteries into.

In terms of a more detailed log, I've been posting on some of the OUYA specific boards

http://ouyaboards.com/ouya-hacking-modd ... w-i-p.html

; there's more detail in those posts and on my FB page.

Once I'm done the plan is to get a site or an instructables together with detailed instructions.

Calling these two done. There's still a ton of stuff I'd like to do on them and some new ideas I'd like to explore but I think I'll just fold some of those into the next build. I left the plastic on both screens since I plan on using them for a few different builds.
