Game Gear repair

Thought I would let everyone know my insights into cap replacement on a game gear.

I did some repair work on two dual ASIC GGs about a week ago. both were extremely quiet, both had no video. typical of the game gear.

The lower left on the main board had two caps that are commonly associated with the screen issues. The sound had one cap associated with it.

After replacing the cap on the main board and the dial cap on the sound board, i had restored sound (although very quiet) and video.

the sound was fully restored (although a bit distorted) by replacing the cap in the upper right hand corner of the sound board.

an interesting observation though, when i was testing the screen after replacing the screen cap, i noticed that the negative line became disconnected when being put back together. despite the fact that the cap didn't have anything connecting the negative line, it still functioned fine. I am presuming that if i had left it connected it would have popped.

anyways, thought i would share the info.
